At ETCH Outdoor Living, we had the pleasure of working with a client in Bondurant, IA, who wanted to enhance their outdoor living space by having a new landscape bed installed. We met with them for a consultation and listened carefully to their goals so that we could help bring their vision to life during the design phase. Once they approved the final design, our team got started on this project! The first step was mapping out where the bed would go before prepping the area by removing existing grass and installing a weed barrier. Then, we placed edging around the landscape bed and laid soil inside it. Finally, we installed plants according to what our client desired while also adding mulch as a finishing touch.

Our client contacted us because they wanted to add some visual interest to their property in Bondurant, IA. They were looking to install a new landscape bed that would highlight an existing tree on their property and have it filled with various plants. To get started, we scheduled an initial consultation with them so that we could discuss their ideas further. During this meeting, we took note of everything they said about what they were hoping to achieve through these new additions. From there, we worked closely together until we came up with a plan that met all of their expectations.

The first step of this landscape project was mapping out where the landscape bed would go and prepping the area.

Once our client gave us the green light to move forward with the construction process, we began mapping out exactly where the landscape bed would be located based on the approved design. They wanted a landscape bed to be centered around a large tree on their property, so we mapped out the design of their new bed so the tree was in the middle of it. Then, we prepped the entire area by removing any existing grass. This way, we could have a clean slate to work with moving forward. Additionally, we installed a weed barrier across the ground to prevent weeds from growing back into the landscape beds after completion.

After prepping the area, we placed edging around the landscape bed and added soil to it.

With the prep work completed, we moved on to placing edging around the newly created landscape bed. By doing this, we ensured that the bed had a defined shape. Next, we brought in fresh soil to install in the bed. Doing so provided the perfect environment for the plants that we were getting ready to plant in it to grow.

The last step of this project was installing plants and mulch in the landscape bed.

Finally, it was time to bring our client's dream landscape bed to fruition! First, we planted a variety of plants throughout the landscape bed according to what they requested. We used plants that would thrive well under local conditions here in Iowa. Then, we topped off everything with mulch. Not only does mulch serve as an attractive addition itself but it also helps retain moisture levels in the soil underneath it while protecting against extreme temperatures too.
